I have extremely high expectations, not only in academics, but in behavior as well. I am very firm and consistent in my classroom management, but carry it out in a fair and caring manner. The students and I will work together to establish classroom rules so they feel ownership in the classroom.

Strategies used for positive behavior as needed:
These are some of the strategies I may use but not necessarily all of them or all at once. It depends on how I think the class is functioning.

Mystery Word: There is a mystery word on the board in which any time the class is on task, they transition well, they get a great compliment from someone other than myself, they earn a letter. As soon as the word is spelled, they receive whatever it is that the word spells. In the past we've had extra recess, a movie, gogurt, popcorn, and others.

Table Points: Tables can earn points for being on task, working quietly, helping each other, or having a clean area. They are usually rewarded every Friday.

Raffle Tickets: If an individual is caught doing a great job or is being helpful, they will receive a ticket. At the end of the week I will draw five names and they will get to go to the prize box.

Consequences for not making good choices:
In our classroom this year, we will have a "Thinking Chair." For repeat offenders of inappropriate behavior they will be sent to the thinking chair where they will have to sign in, write down the inappropriate choice they made the best they can, and then wait for me to come and chat with them. That paper then goes home that day requiring a parent signature. If it is not returned with a parent signature, the child will miss morning recess until it comes back.

Prior to making it to the "Thinking Chair" the child will be reminded of the inappropriate behavior with a verbal warning. If it continues then they will be sent to "The Chair." Following that, if it continues, the child may then be asked to take a time out in another classroom. If your child is consistent in making choices that are not appropriate, their actions may keep them from fun activities such as cooking, on campus special days, or field trips. This would of course include contact with you, the parent, either in person after school, or through email. We can chat that way or set up an appointment to meet with me.

Good behavior is expected both inside and outside of the classroom.

Thank you in advance for your support and help in making this a great school year!
